PC Hub is proud to celebrate the promotion of Professor Monika Doblin, recognising her internationally significant research on plant cell wall biology, including work related to dietary fibre a key component of plant-based foods and human health.

Monika’s research aims to ensure that plant-based foods are not only sustainable but truly beneficial for people and communities. As a Domain Co-Lead within LISAF, Node lead for Plant Synthetic Biology Australia (PSBA), and Co-Deputy Director & Program lead for the ARC Research Hub for Protected Cropping (PC Hub), she is helping to bridge research and industry to deliver real-world outcomes.
Her career path includes a PhD from The University of Melbourne, a postdoctoral fellowship at UC Davis, and leadership roles at both the University of Melbourne and La Trobe University.

LISAF Director Professor Tony Bacic says that “..Monika typifies the contemporary leader- inclusive, empathetic, engaging and with a passion for training the next generation and translating research for societal benefit. Couldn’t be prouder of your success!”

Monika is deeply valued at PC Hub and the La Trobe Institute for Sustainable Agriculture & Food (LISAF) for her scientific expertise, inclusive leadership, generosity, and unwavering energy and we look forward to her continued efforts and future successes.

Congratulations Monika from all at the PC Hub!

Monika Doblin is a plant bio(tech)logist with over 20 years of research experience in investigating the structure, function and regulation of cell surfaces and their constituent molecules (polysaccharides, glycoproteins and cognate enzymes). She uses multidisciplinary approaches to answer questions about how cell surface components are made, assembled & remodelled in response to their environment, and utilises this knowledge to tailor them for end-use applications. Her research spans fundamental science to applied industry projects, the latter focused on making renewable resources more productive for human use.
